Promoting Socio-Economic Rights for MFI Clients

Funded by: Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan

Duration: 2020 - 2018

Overview

The project aimed to support the implementation of Jordan’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy as well as the socio-economic rights for the most vulnerable clients of microfinance institutions (MFIs), especially women. While financial inclusion is a pathway to women’s economic and social empowerment, it is essential that they gain access to MFIs licensed by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) – a factor that positively impacts the economy and the society, as well as these institutions.

A project, carried out by PfG in partnership and with support from the CBJ and Tanmeyah, a network of CBJ-licensed MFIs in the country, sought to:

Align MFI procedures with human and socio-economic rights as well as with the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and CBJ consumer protection instructions.

Enhance clients’ financial literacy, as well as MFI employees’ socio-economic knowledge.

Forge and advance effective partnerships to ensure sustainability of project results and outcomes.

The project started its activities with two MFIs: Vitas Jordan and Micro fund for Women (MFW). Due to its successful goal achievement, the project expanded its work to include all other CBJ-licensed MFIs.
